Stress is making me crazy Dear JOY! I feel like my stress is making me physically ill. I’m not crazy, it really feels like I am actually being beaten down and I can’t do anything about it because the situation is out of my control. I can’t even think about it without feeling stressed. What can I do? signed: Recession victim. No, you aren’t crazy, when you are under extreme or chronic stress, your body responds as if it was being physically assaulted. This is why stress is America’s number 1 health problem. Authorities tell us that 90% of illness is stress related. Nor is it surprising that you can’t think about your situation without becoming stressed. Your primitive brain centers don’t know the difference between a modern day financial challenge and a life threatening ‘saber tooth tiger wants me for dinner’ situation, it still responds in exactly the same way! When stress hits, 80% of the blood leaves the forebrain, stress chemicals pour into your bloodstream, perceptions become distorted, you over react: Your muscles tense up, your heart rate increase, your adrenaline kicks in and your immune system goes on high alert. Over time this wears out your immune system and you get sick. Then you get better and you go back to your old routine and the same thing happens again. The more run-down your immune system gets from the daily wear & tear of stress, the more at-risk you become. That’s the bad news. The good news is you can do something about it; you don’t need to continue being a victim, of stress or anything else.Stressful situations don’t cause long term health problems, our inability to cope with the stress that different situations cause is what creates the problems, health or otherwise. We have not been taught how to deal with our stress, instead we are told ‘work harder’ ‘work smarter’ ‘take a pill’ ‘have a drink’ ‘relax and forget about it’ anything except actually resolving it. As you have noticed, this isn’t helpful. I actually created a video that teaches How to clear stress in less time than it takes to find the valium. It has a number of astonishingly fast, easy ways to manage stress effectively. One of these ways is a ridiculously easy technique to help you think clearly under stress, while actually beginning to clear stress around the situations that are troubling you. Think about your stress right now using this technique and observe what happens. There are specific spots on your head called neurovascular holding points that affect blood circulation. I call them your OMG points, because we instinctively say “Oh My God” and clap our hand to our forehead when someone tells us something shockingly stressful. In many people they are slightly raised bumps, you’ll find them a few inches above the center of your eyebrows. The famous statue of The Thinker is holding these points because doing so actually helps you think. Holding these points for just 5 minutes while breathing deeply begins to condition your primitive brain centers to have a composed response to stress, instead of an emergency reaction. You are literally training your nervous system to keep the blood in your forebrain. In future I invite you to use stress as a trigger to put your hand on your forehead and keep it there, while breathing deeply. In just a few minutes you will begin to notice a difference. You will have empowered yourself to think more clearly and cope more effectively regardless of what life might be throwing at you. The video is for sale on this website. To ensure everyone has access to these tools I am offering it for less than $10. If your financial crisis prevents even that investment, then offer what you can with your commitment to use the tools on the video, and pay it forward after they have helped put you back in control.
